99 Days to Pentecost: Day 2

Day 2 - February 15, 2021

Passage: Colossians 2:2 (Read Full Chapter)
2…attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God's mystery, that is, Christ Himself, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

“Hidden Treasures in Jesus”
Written by Pastor Richard Kim

Paul’s prayer for the Colossian church - whom he has not seen - is that they would have “full assurance that comes from knowing God” (v. 2). To know God, we must know Christ. Because hidden in Jesus - which implies searching - are treasures of wisdom and knowledge of God (v. 3).

Do you want to be rich? To reach the hidden treasures, we must first reject deceitful philosophies (v. 8). Paul argues: why should we pursue empty, deceitful philosophies when we are already “filled in Jesus” (v. 10), “circumcised, buried and raised with Jesus” (v. 11-12), “made alive with Jesus” (v. 13)?

So rather than putting our faith, time and effort into these “false vines/philosophies” which may have the appearance of wisdom (v. 23), Paul exhorts us to “HOLD FAST to the HEAD so that we would be nourished and grow” (v. 19).

Where are you finding your wisdom and nourishment? Is it in Jesus or in empty, deceitful, demonic philosophies that appear wise and persuasive? Are you holding fast to Jesus? If you are, you will have full assurance that comes from knowing God, your treasure. Are you seeking true treasures in and through Jesus?

Prayer: Father, we reject the empty, deceitful, demonic philosophies of the world. We hold fast to Jesus. Reveal your great treasures as we walk with Jesus in the Spirit today. Amen.
