99 Days to Pentecost: Day 23

Day 23 - March 8, 2021
Hosea 14:1-3 (Read Full Chapter)
1 “Return, Israel, to the Lord your God, For you have stumbled because of your wrongdoing. 2 Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to Him, “Take away all guilt And receive us graciously, So that we may present the fruit of our lips. 3 Assyria will not save us, We will not ride on horses; Nor will we say again, ‘Our god’ To the work of our hands; For in You the orphan finds mercy.”

“Repentance To Bring Blessing”
Written by Pastor Seong Hwang

I’m reminded of the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15 where the younger son arrogantly demands his share of the inheritance, even while his father was still living. Eventually, he squanders his father's wealth in wild, irresponsible living. At this very low point of his life, he comes to his senses and decides to return home to ask his father for forgiveness, hoping his father might take him back as one of his servants. Upon seeing his son, the father, filled with compassion, runs to his son and lovingly embraces him. The father responds with kindness, forgiveness, and healing, restoring his son—not as a servant but as an heir again.

The book of Hosea concludes with a beautiful chapter of hope and restoration for Israel. Israel was eventually conquered by Assyria. They faced the consequences of their rebellion against God. Yet, God continues to demonstrate his love, grace, mercy, and compassion. He promises to heal and restore Israel if they return with genuine repentance. This is a key reminder for us that if we turn our hearts to God in genuine repentance, God promises to forgive, heal, and restore us to Him. This promise of forgiveness, healing, and restoration is available for all of us today.

When we return to God with words and actions of genuine repentance, He will forgive, heal and restore. Could we take some time today in prayer of repentance and praise, recognizing that our God is kind, forgiving, and compassionate?

Prayer: Lord, we thank you that you are kind, forgiving, and compassionate, even when we don't deserve it. We pray that we would surrender to you daily in our walk, knowing that when we come before you with genuine repentance, you answer with mercy and love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
