99 Days to Pentecost: Day 38

Day 38 - March 23, 2021
Mark 5 (Read Full Chapter)
18 And as He was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed was begging Him that he might accompany Him. 19 And He did not let him, but He *said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.

“The Good News”
Written by Pastor Joseph Noh

This chapter is host to amazing accounts of powerful and miraculous healings.

We are presented with three starkly different kinds of people. Jarius was a father who lost hope when he heard his sick daughter passed away as Jesus was going with him. The bleeding woman had complete hope and faith in Jesus as she desperately tried to simply touch his cloak to be healed. And the demons who possessed the man asked for mercy in fear of Jesus as the man himself virtually had no hope.

In every instance, Jesus demonstrated his power, and in every instance, people were astonished and amazed.

What is fascinating is seeing the response of the man who had been demon-possesed. In verse 18, it says that he was begging Jesus to allow him to accompany him as a follower, something that many from the crowds commonly asked Jesus. But Jesus does not permit him. Instead, he instructs him to share the great things God has done, essentially proclaiming the gospel.

As believers, we are confident in Christ because he saved us. Salvation is a miracle! In response, we become devoted and dedicated followers, wanting to live in obedience. Here in this passage, we are reminded of another aspect of our call: proclaiming our faith as we follow Christ. To visibly share with those around us the power of God in our lives, the transformation that has happened and is ongoing.

May we be the joyful, shameless “fools for Christ”, who boldly display our testimonies for the sake of others and demonstrate the goodness of God so that they may also know Christ and be saved!

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for the salvation and eternal life that we now have through You, Jesus! In every moment, in hopeless and hopeful situations, You are there! Thank You, thank You, thank You! In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
