99 Days to Pentecost: Day 22

Day 22 - March 7, 2021

Hosea 13:4-6 (Read Full Chapter)
“But I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me. I cared for you in the desert, in the land of burning heat. When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.”

“Judgment On Israel”
Written by Pastor Seong Hwang

It is our tendency that when times are good, we often forget about God. We forget that it was God who rescued us from sin. We forget that it is God who sustains us each day. We forget that it is God who loves and cares for us. It is also our tendency that when times are bad, we turn to Him.

Israel has quickly forgotten the goodness and faithfulness of God. It was God who brought them out of slavery. It was God who cared for them and fed them miraculously in the middle of the desert. They were satisfied. But soon, they became proud and forgot about God's blessings upon their life. Hosea describes in chapter 13 a life in full sin, where Baal is now their god, and their lifestyle no longer resembles the people of God. And at the end of this chapter, it is said that because they have rebelled against God, Israel will be destroyed.

This is a reminder for us to repent, stay hungry and in need of God, so that we don't become self-sufficient in our faith, but rather we recognize God's constant and loving provision over our lives each day and each moment. Could we as a church rely on God both in good times and in bad?  Let's not depend on the gifts, but depend on the Giver.

Prayer: Lord, we ask for tender hearts. May we be people who need you daily. Jesus, be the center of our lives today. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
