Hebrews 1:3-4 (Read Full Chapter)
3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, to the extent that He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

I once went to a college campus to talk to students about Jesus and ask them what they thought about Him. There were so many different ideas of who He was! However, it was sad to hear that many believed in a Jesus that did not really exist or was not based on Scripture. False teachings can take us far away from the truth and from having a real relationship with God.
Hebrews was written to Jewish Christians who were tempted to fall back to Judaism. Chapter 1 lays out clearly who Jesus is. He is the exact representation of God. Jesus rules all things, keeping it all together by His powerful word and authority. Jesus purified us of our sins. He deserves all our honor and worship.
During the time of this letter, false teachings about Jesus were rampant. Some taught the worshipping of angels rather than God. Some taught that only angels could reach God. Another was that Jesus was an angel or the highest of the angels. I pray that as we spend time reading through Hebrews and meditating on this chapter, we will not only gain a greater understanding of who Jesus is, but that truth will also set us free to have a closer and more intimate relationship with God. May our faith grow to also let others know the truth about Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, we pray against the enemy and the lies that deceive so many. We pray for clarity, freedom, and a spirit of boldness to go and share the good news of Jesus Christ with all those we meet. In Jesus' mighty name we pray, Amen.
