99 Days to Pentecost: Day 11

Day 11 - February 24, 2021
Hosea 2:23 (Read Full Chapter)
23 I will sow her for Myself in the land. I will also have compassion on her who had not obtained compassion, And I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they will say, ‘You are my God!’”

“The Open Arms of Our Father”
Written by Pastor Joe Suh

As we continue the reading of Hosea, we see that chapter 2 is a summary of the entire book.  At first glance, the tone of verses 1-13 comes off as harsh and unloving.  However, the marriage of Hosea and Gomer represents an amazing picture of God and His people.  Through trials and tribulation, God continues to pursue the people that He loves.

We see that God was hurt by His people for their idol worship, sin, and unrepentant hearts. They did not know that it was God who cared and always provided for them (v. 8) as they used all that they had to worship Baal instead. Although punishment came (v. 13), God had a plan to restore His people (v. 21-22).  They would know restoration ultimately came because God proclaimed that they are His people (v. 23).

As you read this chapter, do you see any similarities between yourself and Gomer?  Do you struggle in letting go of certain sin in your life?  Instead of turning to your Heavenly Father for love and contentment, do you seek fulfillment in other places?

To some degree, I believe we all do this.  We often look for love, identity, and security in all the wrong places.  Yet, during these times when we are far from God, take comfort in knowing that God is faithful to His promises. God will punish those that need punishment, but nothing can separate His people from the love of God.  And even though we often run from Him - just like the parable of the prodigal son - God our Father is waiting at the gate for our return. And when we do, He runs to us with open arms!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive us for the sin that leads us away from You.  We thank you for the love and mercy You pour out on us.  May we fight for our relationship with You just as You fight for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
