99 Days to Pentecost: Day 21

Day 21 - March 6, 2021
Hosea 12:9-10 (Read Full Chapter)
9 But I have been the Lord your God since the land of Egypt; I will make you live in tents again, as in the days of the appointed festival. 10 I have also spoken to the prophets, and I provided many visions, and through the prophets I spoke in parables.

“God is Constant and Unchanging”
Written by Pastor Tina Hsu

The Bible is presented to us in many different genres: history, poetry, proverbs, prophecy, and even letters. Throughout the diversity of genres, we can always expect to learn about God’s unchanging nature and character in every book from Genesis to Revelation. While the message in this particular chapter of Hosea is about remembering Israel’s past, God’s righteous judgment and discipline, and the call to return to the Lord, God also reveals what kind of God He is. He is an unchanging God.

While our life circumstances may change all the time, God is constant in every generation. He reminds Ephraim that He is the same Lord since the day that He brought out their forefathers from the land of Egypt, and He is continuously a God who speaks. In Ephraim’s history, He has revealed Himself in words and visions through prophets, such as Moses. He is the same God speaking through the prophet Hosea. It is a refreshing and necessary reminder to regularly dwell on the truth that our God is constant and unchanging.

How does this truth about God’s nature empower us in our faith? It empowers us to return to Him when we have done wrong. Hosea 12:6 says, “So as for you, return to your God, maintain kindness and justice, and wait for your God continually.” We are returning to God who is the same Creator, Father, and Lord who loves us. His unchanging nature also empowers us to trust Him when we He speaks truth and disciplines us. He doesn’t waver in His principles and standards. While discipline may bring about growing pains, we can trust God to do a transformative work in us.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being a constant and unchanging God. Because of You, I can build my life on a firm foundation of faith. May I regularly dwell and meditate on this amazing character You have. Thank you Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
