99 Days to Pentecost: Day 53

Day 53 - April 7, 2021

Philippians 4:8 (Read Full Chapter)
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

“Thinking the Things That Are Worthy of Praise”
Written by Pastor Tina Hsu

One of the closing exhortations of Philippians is to set our minds on whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and commendable. Paul implies it is for our benefit to intentionally choose to think about life-giving things because our natural grain is to set our minds on whatever is frightening, negative, worrisome, unsure, false, and sometimes even shameful and condemning. Scripture reminds us that there are always hidden treasures from God in all our situations if we sincerely search for what is excellent and worthy of praise. When we think about these things, we are strengthened to put our hope and faith in Christ, and we release the weight of anxiety and fear and its strong hold over us. As you read the whole chapter today, prayerfully consider how the Holy Spirit is leading you to respond.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder today to set my mind on things that are true, pure and lovely. I ask that you show me by Your Holy Spirit what is good, pure, and worthy of praise in my life and that I look at things from Your perspective. In Jesus’ name, amen.
