99 Days to Pentecost: Day 8

Day 8 - February 21, 2021

1 John 4:7-9 (Read Full Chapter)
7 Beloved, let’s love one another; for love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 By this the love of God was revealed in us, that God has sent His only Son into the world so that we may live through Him.

“God is Love”
Written by Pastor Joe Suh

Earlier in his epistle, the Apostle John states that God is light (v. 1:5).  As we continue our reading of John’s first epistle we see that John gives us another description of God. He very boldly and clearly states that God is love (v. 8).

To me, this is one of the most important passages in the Bible. Why? Because John is letting us know a key attribute of God.  He is not just saying that God loves us, he is unequivocally stating that God’s nature and spirit is love.

Why is this important? Because, this gives us assurance that we never have to doubt His love for us. We would all agree that God is big…He is the creator of the universe and all things.
Yet, because His nature is love, it establishes that He loves everyone. He loves His sheep, the sinners, the unbelievers, the lost, and the broken…He loves us all. He loved us before we loved Him. So if you have ever doubted that He loves you, look to the proof of His love.

What is the evidence of God’s love?  He sent his only Son as a propitiation so we may live (v. 9-10).  Before we knew Him, He loved us and sent a sacrifice for each and every one of us.  This is the ultimate act of love, but there are also little reminders each and every day that He loves us.
Take a moment to reflect on the different ways that God has demonstrated His love for you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us in the most amazing way possible.  You sacrificed Your Son for us and I pray that we never doubt your love. Today, remind us of the many ways You love us. In Jesus name, Amen!
