99 Days to Pentecost: Day 48

Day 48 - April 2, 2021
Passage: Mark 15:13-14 (Read Full Chapter)
13 They shouted back, “Crucify Him!” 14 But Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify Him!”
“The King We Need”
Written by Pastor Joe Suh
Just a few days earlier Jesus entered Jerusalem on the back of a donkey to the crowd cheering “Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest” (11:9-10). Now in chapter 15 we see the crowd has turned on Jesus and they are shouting “crucify him, crucify him”.
What has changed? The celebration of Jesus as King was short-lived because the people did not truly understand what kind of king Jesus was. They wanted a military general that would come in and overthrow the Roman rule and control. However, what they had was a humble servant that came to lay down His life for everyone. Not for worldly gain, but for eternal glory in Heaven. Jesus was not the king they wanted, but is the King we all need.
There was disappointment from the people because Jesus did not fit the image they thought He should be. Are you ever disappointed in Jesus? Does Jesus not fit into your mold of who He should be? This is the problem. We try to fit Jesus into our lives. However, we have to see that Jesus is the mold and we are to pour into Him.
Jesus has to truly be Lord over our life. We have to ground ourselves in the Word and allow ourselves to form to it, not the other way around.
Today is Good Friday – the day that our Lord and Savior carried all of our burdens, shame and sin and defeated it on the cross. Because of His love for us we all have an eternal life in Heaven. Take some time today to really meditate on who Jesus is in your life. Do you conform to Him or do you try to conform Him to you?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive us for we know not what we do. Thank you for loving us and dying for us while we were yet sinners. Today, remind us of who you are in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
