1 John 5:4-5 (Read Full Chapter)
4 For whoever has been born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. 5 Who is the one who overcomes the world, but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
"Faith to Overcome"

More than ever, the world we live in seems to be in chaos and further from the Biblical truth we are called to as believers. We live in a “cancel-culture” where there is zero-tolerance for differing opinions and ideas. How do we as disciples of Christ navigate this world so that we may overcome?
John explains in this passage how to overcome the world. It is by our faith we overcome (v. 4). Our spiritual anchor and moral compass has to be grounded in the Word so that our faith can lead us.
But, our faith has to also have the right object. Who is the object of our faith? If you said “Jesus”, you are correct (v. 5)! By our faith in Jesus and in His work, we can claim victory over the world. Even through all the enemy does to trap us, we overcome the world of sin because of Jesus.
We experience the fullness of His grace because of Jesus’ victory over death. God gave us eternal life through Jesus (v. 11). If you ever doubt that, I encourage you to read and meditate on verse 13. John writes to give us assurance in our eternal life in Jesus Christ.
There are many traps and temptations that the enemy puts in front of us. As the world wanes and moves astray, stand firm in knowledge of the truth (v. 20). Stay strong, be grounded in the Word, and let your faith help you to overcome!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we look to your Word to anchor us in truth. May our faith in Jesus remain steadfast and allow us to overcome the world. In Jesus’ name, amen!
